So I know I'm several days behind on the pictures and I apologize. It's a combination of being sick and having no time. I can update the stats, current location, maps, calendar, and daily pages in under five minutes, and I always do that right before I go to bed, but the pictures can sometimes take several hours.1. I have to collect all three cameras that we use and copy every picture that was taken that day onto my computer. This is usually between 200 and 400 pictures.
2. I have to look at every one of them and delete the ones that aren't good enough, which is usually about half of them. I also have to make sure they are all rotated and cropped if necessary.
3. I have to put them in the correct order and rename them all so they can be sorted easily. This is difficult because there are three cameras taking pictures of the same things.
4. I have to resize them all because no one in their right mind puts uncompressed 8 megapixel photos on a website.
5. I have to upload them all to the site. This can take awhile depending on the signal I'm getting from the mobile broadband.
6. I have to make sure each picture uploaded properly and I usually have to redo a few of them.
7. The comments are the final step. I don't like the pictures to be on the site without comments. What makes this difficult is that I don't do the comments myself. So I have to coordinate with the person who does (It's more fun for you to guess who it is...) and find a good time for him/her to do them. He/she puts a lot of effort into them so this takes a good amount of time as well.
All of this needs to be done every single day. But we're usually busy during the day, and at night we're so worn out that we just want to sleep. I also have to share my computer with 3 other people who want to check their email, post blogs, etc., which is fine, but it leaves me very little time to update the site. I usually end up staying up hours after everyone else goes to bed because it's the only time I get... which, coincidentally, is what I'm doing right now.
I'm not complaining at all. I'm having the time of my life on this trip and I love working on this website for you guys. I feel really bad that I can't do better, but I will continue to try. Thanks for caring about us enough to check it every day and hopefully I'll get better with the updates as time passes.

Hanlon,What you are doing is fantastic. A few years ago we would not even be "following" you guys like we are now. Although it is nice to see something new every day, most importantly you need to be enjoying, the once in a lifetime trip. HAVE FUN.

You are so committed! Or is it that you should be committed? I'm surprised you don't photoshop the images before you post! LOL But really... thanks for your work. Really appreciate being in touch like this. Saturday, February 24, 2007, 10:52 AM

P.S. The current AAA magazine has an article about the New England area...even a picture of the Portland Headlight in Cape Elizabeth!!! Wow! You'll have to check it out and go by your first house at 93 Ocean House Road in Cape Elizabeth and by the hospital where you were born, the Maine Medical Center in South Portland.
